USAP Calls for New Leadership at the University of Sydney
The USAP Council is deeply concerned about the persistent issues
affecting academic staff and students at the University of Sydney.
Despite numerous efforts to address these concerns through internal
channels, we have seen little progress.
We believe that a change in leadership is necessary to restore trust,
accountability, and integrity within the University community. The
current Vice-Chancellor’s tenure has been marked by a series of
unresolved issues, including complaints and concerns related to staff
well-being and academic freedom.
The recent appointment of a new Chancellor provides an opportunity for a
fresh start. We urge the University Senate to consider selecting a new
Vice-Chancellor from amongst senior academics in agreement with staff,
with a focus on restoring the institution’s commitment to academic
excellence, staff well-being, student success, and community service. We
believe that this change is essential for the University to move forward
and maintain its reputation as a leading institution of higher learning.
USAP has made concrete proposals for improvement and reform, which we
are willing to discuss with the University Senate and other
stakeholders. We are committed to working collaboratively to find
solutions that benefit the entire University community.
